BalanceNG Certified Systems

Requirements for a “BalanceNG Certified System”

General Requirements:

  • Operating system required to be either Linux (Kernel 2.6 mininum) or Solaris 10
  • Minimum of 2 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces
  • Extendability to up to 6 total Gigabit Ethernet interfaces minimum
  • BalanceNG benchmark (single instance) with a minimum of 50000 packets/sec (75700000 Bytes/sec) between all possible pairs of interfaces in both directions (including interface extensions)
  • BalanceNG benchmark with two instances at the same time over two different interface pairs with a minimum of 50000 packets/sec (75700000 Bytes/sec) on both instances
  • Minimum of 1024MB ECC memory
  • Utility “wget” must be installed (Debian package “wget”)
  • The “mon” monitoring daemon package must be installed (Debian package “mon”)
  • The Debian package “libnet-dns-perl” may be installed for mon DNS monitoring
  • The Net-SNMP daemon (Debian package “snmpd”) needs to be present and the BalanceNG MIB must be setup for instance 0
  • BalanceNG instance 0 must be automatically startable on boot
  • Syslog logfile rotation and deletion must be present and active

Additional requirements for Linux based systems:

  • Utility “ethtool” must be installed (Debian package “ethtool”)
  • /etc/sysctl.conf must have “arp_ignore” set to 1 for and “arp_announce” set to 2 for “all” and all present ethernet interfaces
  • Module “8021q” must be be present/available
  • The “vconfig” tool must be installed/available (Debian package “vlan”).
